Overview

This unit of competency defines the skills and knowledge required to review process specifications and determine the production sequence and applies to one of a range of processes in manufacturing: machining, pressing, assembly and to a stage of the overall production process.

It does not apply to interfacing between processes.

Where planning is based on engineering drawings and supporting engineering data, appropriate units of competence should also be selected.

Assessment

For Melbourne campuses

Assessment tasks will be designed to reinforce & extend knowledge and skill competence within set & controlled parameters in accordance with each unit’s learning outcomes & performance criteria requirements, including the setting of work based practical application tasks designed to provide evidence of competence outcomes, within periodic and scheduled timelines.

Students will be expected to demonstrate the following required skills:
Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy the requirements of the elements and performance criteria on at least two (2) occasions and include:
• following work instructions, standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safe work practices
• identifying and interpreting engineering and production data and determining production processes, including work planned over a specified timeframe, taking into account required and available resources
• identifying steps and milestones against which progress can be checked and preparing flow charts in accordance with procedures
• preparing material and parts lists and documenting tooling and/or equipment requirements in accordance with SOPs.
