Overview

This unit is a practical, interactive course designed to equip students with the relevant practical skills and knowledge to practice as a migration agent and to establish and operate a migration agency. The unit covers topics such as ethics and professional practice, accounts management, business management, file management, interviewing, statutory interpretation, preparing applications and submissions, and advocating a client’s case. Students will be provided opportunities to apply theoretical and practical knowledge to a practical simulated work environment and to observe professional practice within a migration agency context through ‘in class time’ experiential learning activities, provided in person or virtual.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Apply advanced ethical principles, intercultural understanding, and professional obligations in managing a migration practice, consistent with regulatory requirements;
  2. Integrate advanced business, client file management, and compliance strategies to operate a migration agency effectively within a complex regulatory environment;
  3. Communicate and advise clients and stakeholders clearly and professionally, demonstrating respect for diversity, confidentiality, and the ability to interpret and convey complex information; and,
  4. Critically analyse and evaluate legislative and regulatory changes, troubleshoot complex operational issues, and engage in ongoing professional development to maintain contemporary practice.
