Overview

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to implement nursing care as outlined in a person’s nursing care plan, evaluate outcomes of care provided, record and report progress, and respond to emergency situations.

This unit applies to enrolled nursing work carried out in consultation and collaboration with registered nurses, and under supervisory arrangements aligned to the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) regulatory authority legislative requirements.

Assessment

For Melbourne campuses

Assessment tasks will be designed to reinforce & extend knowledge and skill competence within set & controlled parameters in accordance with each unit’s learning outcomes & performance criteria requirements, including the setting of work based practical application tasks designed to provide evidence of competence outcomes, within periodic and scheduled timelines.

Students will be expected to demonstrate the following required skills:
• implement and monitor two different nursing plans of care in the workplace.
• evaluate one nursing plan of care
• use emergency codes and perform basic life support in a simulated environment on an adult, child and infant manikin according to organisational policies and procedures.

The tasks must be undertaken in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) professional practice standards, codes and guidelines.

Required reading

The qualified trainer and assessor will provide teaching and learning materials as required in the form of workbooks produced by the VUPolytechnic and/or via the VU Polytechnic e-learning system.
