Overview

Pre-service teachers will undertake an extended period of professional experience in a birth – 2 years early childhood setting that has a qualified early childhood teacher onsite. They will be supported by the placement centre’s mentor, online materials, and preparatory classes within Professional Practice 2.
During the 15 days of placement, preservice teachers will work collaboratively with staff, families and the community to provide responsive care and education within a birth – 2 years setting. Preservice teachers will articulate and connect their philosophical and theoretical standpoints to the planning cycle to generate practice in a setting for very young children.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Work confidently with very young children, attending to their care and education within the policy and procedural frameworks the placement centre;
  2. Engage with families and colleagues to benefit the learning and care of very young children;
  3. Engage in responsive relationships with children aged from birth to 2 years;
  4. Use the Planning Cycle to implement appropriate practices for learning and development of very young children.
