Overview

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to manage time during projects. It involves determining and implementing the project schedule and assessing time management outcomes.The unit applies to individuals responsible for managing and leading a project in an organisation, business, or as a consultant.

Assessment

For Melbourne campuses

Assessment tasks will be designed to reinforce & extend knowledge and skill competence within set & controlled parameters in accordance with each unit’s learning outcomes & performance criteria requirements, incl the setting of work based practical application tasks designed to provide evidence of competence outcomes, within periodic and scheduled timelines.
Students will be expected to demonstrate the following required skills:
* manage project time on at least two occasions.
In the course of the above, the candidate must:
* develop a project schedule using project management tools and techniques
* conduct a review of project scheduling and recommend improvements for the future.

Students will also be expected to demonstrate the following knowledge:
* estimation techniques to determine task duration and resource effort
* procedures for identifying critical path
* procedures for managing project baselines, establishment and variance
* project life cycle phases
* best-practice time management methodologies, their capabilities, limitations, applications and outcomes
* key tools for project scheduling
* work breakdown structures and how they apply to project schedules.

Required reading

The qualified trainer and assessor will advise students of class notes, reading materials produced by VU Polytechnic and further support via VU Polytechnic e-learning system and/or in person.
