When is a job not a job? When it’s your passion!
Studying postgrad, there are great networking opportunities with classmates because so many of your fellow students have industry experience.

Graduate Diploma in Counselling
After completing his Business degree and spending eight years in a related career, David Kwame Arthur realised his true passion lay in counselling and pursued postgraduate studies.
“I studied my Business degree at VU. I was attracted to the industry experience embedded in the course, and in particular the Co-op year.
After graduating, I worked in employment services for eight years as a consultant and manager. I enjoyed working with people, but I really wanted to dedicate my career to helping others. So I approached VU and decided on postgraduate studies in Counselling.
What made my studies possible was the flexibility of the course to fit around my full-time work – as well as the openness and support from teachers and staff.
During my postgrad studies I was fortunate to get a work placement at my old high school in a counselling role focusing on student wellbeing. Studying postgrad, there are also great networking opportunities with classmates because so many of your fellow students have industry experience.
Now I work full time as a senior drug and alcohol counsellor and assessor (forensic/community) at Odyssey House Victoria.
Two years ago my brother and I started Back on Track Initiative, engaging with at-risk and vulnerable young people through platforms such as music and sports. It’s just our way of paying it forward.”
