Professor Sally Totman

Professor Sally Totman is Executive Dean of the First Year College at Victoria University. 

Sally has almost three decades of experience in higher education, with expertise in academic leadership, curriculum innovation, organisational transformation, and building collaborative, high-performing teams. Her leadership focuses on educational quality, student experience, research and innovation, people and culture, and financial sustainability, with a strong commitment to improving student success, retention, and progression and advancing equity, widening participation, and progressive inclusivity.

Before joining Victoria University, Sally was Deputy Dean of the Institute of Education, Arts and Community at Federation University and Head of the School of Social Work and Arts at Charles Sturt University. She previously held senior leadership roles at Deakin University, including Deputy Head of School and Associate Head of School (Teaching and Learning).

Sally is a political scientist specialising in the history, politics, and international relations of the Middle East and North Africa. She has provided expert commentary for radio and television and is the author of How Hollywood Projects Foreign Policy, which examines representations of the region in film and popular culture.
