PhD scholarship in physiology now open

As Australia’s leading research institute for sport, exercise and active living, ISEAL is able to offer unique PhD scholarship opportunities with our industry partners.

This PhD scholarship is offered in partnership with the Defence Science and Technology Group (DST) of the Australian Government and Victoria University's Institute of Sport, Exercise and Active Living (ISEAL). It is to research physiological and psychophysiological responses to assisted locomotion during load carriage.

The value of the scholarship will be worth the same as an Australian Postgraduate Awards (APA) and VU Research Postgraduate Scholarship, commencing at $26,735 per year in 2017.

Application close on 24 November 2016.

Summary of scholarship opportunity

The topic for this PhD is the physiological and psychophysiological responses to assisted locomotion during load carriage.

The Program in Assistive Technology Innovation (PATI) was formed as a joint collaboration between Victoria University, Defence Science Technology (DST) Group and The University of Melbourne.

The current program of research aims to assist in the design and development of assistive devices for reducing the load carrying burden in Australian Infantry soldiers. This will be achieved by investigating the biomechanical and physiological responses to load carriage. An area of specific interest under this programme involves understanding the physiological and psychophysiological responses to assisted movement during load carriage.

The successful applicant will have to sign an agreement assigning to Victoria University all intellectual property developed in the PhD (excluding copyright to the thesis).

Supervisor: Professor David Bishop ([email protected]).

Locations: ISEAL and DST Group Human Land Systems facilities at Fishermans Bend, both of which are in Melbourne.
