Attending graduation is one of the most exciting parts of obtaining your qualification.

Graduation is a formal event, and an important part of recognising your academic progress. University Medals of Excellence are awarded and a Valedictorian speaks on behalf of the graduating cohort.

As a public acknowledgement of your achievement, you will celebrate surrounded and supported by fellow graduates, friends, family and the VU community.

Melbourne ceremonies

Our Higher Education onshore ceremonies are usually held in Melbourne in August and December. In 2021 they are scheduled for 2–6 August and 13–17 December.

VU Polytechnic (TAFE) onshore ceremonies are usually held in Melbourne in March.

Dates are subject to change and will be confirmed six weeks prior to the ceremonies.

Due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, restrictions on large-scale events, may affect the way our graduation ceremonies are held. We are carefully considering how we can recognise and celebrate our students' success in the safest way possible.

2020 graduates

All 2020 graduates and registered participants for 2020 graduation ceremonies will be invited to pre-register their interest to attend one of the Melbourne 2021 graduations.

To ensure that we comply with COVIDSafe guidelines and pre-plan our graduate numbers, you must pre-register your interest by no later than Friday 30 April 2021.

Please check your email for pre-registration instructions. Only graduates who pre-register their interest to attend will be contacted in June 2021 with further information about the event and a formal invitation to purchase tickets.

Watch the University's 2020 graduation ceremonies, which were livestreamed on YouTube.

All 2021 eligible students will receive an email with full ceremony details approximately six weeks prior to the ceremonies.
