Co-requisites
(Corequisite units must be studied concurrently with this unit)
Overview
This unit develops your ability to manage, monitor, and secure enterprise networks using Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP), Active Directory, and AI-powered tools. You will learn to configure directory services, troubleshoot performance issues, and automate key network processes. Through hands-on projects and interactive workshops, you will gain the practical knowledge needed to support complex network environments in professional settings. By the end of the unit, you will be able to design and manage scalable network solutions, preparing you for careers in network administration, infrastructure support, and enterprise IT operations.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- Analyse SNMP-based network monitoring and AD-based enterprise network management strategies;
- Apply and configure network infrastructure and directory services for scalability and security;
- Determine network performance issues and troubleshoot problems using both SNMP tools and AD policies;
- Collaborate on the management and enforcement of enterprise network security, authentication, and policy frameworks; and
- Adapt AI-driven tools and scripting to enhance network management processes.
Assessment
For Melbourne campuses
Assessment type: Laboratory Work | Grade: 20%
Practical Tasks on SNMP & AD-based Network Management with verified live interaction
Assessment type: Project | Grade: 50%
Design & Implementation of an Integrated SNMP & AD Network (Group) with presentation, demonstration and oral Q&A verification
Assessment type: Test | Grade: 30%
Written & Practical Tests on SNMP, AD, and AI-based MonitoringWritten
Laboratory Work: Conducted under supervision, students complete real-time data analysis, coding, or modelling tasks. Execution is observed, and outcomes are verified through live checks or oral Q&A to ensure individual performance.
Project: Includes structured milestone reviews and in-class progress checks. Individual contributions are logged, validated, and justified through recorded peer review or demonstration to ensure authenticity.
