Overview
This unit represents the culminating experience of the Graduate Diploma in Migration Law, requiring students to integrate and apply advanced knowledge and skills developed across previous units. It consolidates learning and provides an opportunity to demonstrate mastery of migration law and professional practice at an advanced level. Students engage in complex, authentic tasks that replicate real-world challenges encountered by migration agents and migration law practitioners. The unit emphasises higher-order cognitive skills, including critical analysis, strategic decision-making, compliance management, and ethical reasoning. Through simulated scenarios and problem-solving exercises, students will exercise professional judgment in managing client relationships, preparing and lodging applications, and navigating regulatory frameworks.
Students have the option (depending on availability of providers) to complete up to 90 hours of Work Integrated Learning (WIL) in a migration law-related practice with a participating employer. WIL provides authentic exposure to professional contexts, enabling students to critically reflect on practice and strengthen employability skills essential for migration law careers.
Beyond reinforcing theoretical understanding, the unit develops professional autonomy and accountability. By the end of the unit, students will demonstrate the capacity to operate as registered migration agents, delivering high-quality, ethical, and compliant services in diverse and dynamic practice environments.
