Sid grew up in Perth, Western Australia. He did his undergraduate studies at University of Western Australia, completing a PhD at Murdoch University.

Sid moved to Victoria in 2014, teaching politics at Deakin University. In 2016, Sid became an academic teaching scholar at Victoria University within the College of Arts and Education. His teaching experience has been in the fields of politics, sociology, sustainability and academic literacy. Sid is currently a full-time lecturer with the First Year College at Victoria University.
