Dr Devaki Monani joined the Sir Zelman Cowen Centre as Adjunct Senior Research Fellow in 2023.

Devaki is currently a lecturer at Charles Darwin University teaching Leadership in Social Policy, Co-Creating Partnerships in Social Justice, and Legal Issues in Social Work.

Devaki was a lecturer at Australian Catholic University (2015-2017) where she also lead the Master of Social Work program. She was appointed as a post-doctoral researcher on two major projects at University of Technology (2010-2015); the first was funded by the Australian Human Rights Commission and Academy of Social Sciences Australia examining International Students and Human Rights in Australia; and a latter project (2012-2015) funded by the Rural Industries Research Development Corporation (now known as Agrifutures) examining productivity and participation of multicultural groups in rural farming communities of Australia.

Devaki was appointed Research Fellow at Monash University (2008-2010) on a collaborative project funded by Windermere Child and Family Services, the Lord Mayors Trust and William Buckland Foundation examining building family and community resilience in the Cardinia growth corridor.

In 2005, Devaki was appointed Research Fellow at Victoria University at the Institute of Community Ethnicity and Policy Alternatives delivering a project funded by the Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs, examining the settlement pattern of 501 multicultural participants across Australia.

Devaki’s doctoral study (2001-2008) focused on comparative social policy lens entitled ‘Crossing boundaries and lesson drawing: a case study of safe accommodation program transfer between Australia and India’.
