Victoria University First Nations Fund
The Victoria University (VU) First Nations Fund has given Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students the opportunity to study here in higher education and vocational education.
The First Nations Fund was established at VU in 2022. The program has two tiers – Year 7 to 12 school students and current VU students.
For Year 7–12 students
Darrabarruk Turt-Barram is our program for First Nations stars! It means ‘new star’ in Wadawurrung language.
This program encourages Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander secondary school students to progress through their schooling and actively consider tertiary education.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in year 7 to 12 can access one or both grants below:
- Year 7–12: Get $250 to help with school costs, such as uniform, camps, excursions and school supplies.
- Year 11 & 12: Apply for and enrol in a VU course through the VU Early Entry program to be eligible for an extra $500.
Students attending Victorian secondary schools are eligible to receive the $250 grant once per calendar year.

Current VU students
Grants via the VU First Nations Fund are available to current Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students enrolled in a course at VU for unique, enabling costs related to studies.
This includes:
• supporting participation in conferences
• field work
• sporting competitions
• study abroad and exchange programs
• research costs and projects.
