Job-ready & in demand: the reputation behind a VU degree

Preference a uni that backs you all the way – from week one support to getting a job.

Your degree should do more than get you across the stage at graduation – it should set you up for what comes next.

At VU, we have the track record to back it up. Our awards and rankings show students build real, work-ready skills, employers rate our graduates, and our research is world-leading.

#1 in Victoria for skills development

The QILT Student Experience Survey is an independent, government-commissioned survey that asks current students how well their university degree helps them develop skills across eight capabilities:

  • critical thinking
  • complex problem-solving
  • collaboration and teamwork
  • confidence to learn independently
  • written communication
  • spoken communication
  • deep knowledge of your field
  • practical, work-related skills.

In the most recent survey (2024, released September 2025), VU ranked #1 in Victoria – because our students consistently say we deliver across all eight. There's a reason for that: you learn through hands-on teaching in state-of-the-art facilities that mirror real work environments.

This means you graduate job-ready, with the practical skills, communication and problem-solving employers screen for, and the confidence to use them from the day you start.

#4 in Australia for graduate employer satisfaction

The QILT Employer Satisfaction Survey goes a step further and asks the people who actually do the hiring. Employers and supervisors of recent graduates rate how satisfied they are with the job VU grads are doing – across their foundational, technical, collaborative, adaptive and employability skills.

The headline question is the most telling: would you hire another graduate from this course and university? In the 2025 survey, 87.5% of employers said yes – above the national average of 84.2%, ranking VU #4 in Australia.

This means a VU qualification carries real weight when you're job-hunting. Employers who've worked with VU graduates rate them highly and come back for more – so to a hiring manager, your degree signals that you can do the job, not just pass the course.

#6 in the world for sport science

Some rankings are about the classroom. This one's about world-leading research, but the benefits

ShanghaiRanking's 2025 Global Ranking of Sport Science Schools and Departments – a respected international ranking – places VU 6th in the world. It measures the volume, quality and global impact of the sport science research a university produces: how many papers we have in the world's top journals, how often that work gets cited, and how widely VU researchers collaborate internationally.

And that research doesn't just stay in the lab. VU students are taught and mentored by academics shaping the field globally, learn in the same world-class facilities and access placement and job opportunities at elite sporting organisations partnered with the university.
