VU Vultures set to soar in 2025 University Basketball League

After months of training, our men’s and women’s teams brought strong energy to round one, taking on the University of Melbourne. Both matches were close contests, with the University of Melbourne narrowly winning in the women’s 67-56, and the men’s 94-87. 

VU was one of eight institutions that founded the University Basketball League in 2021. Now in its fifth year, the UBL has gone from strength to strength, with the 2025 season featuring 12 universities. 

VU Bachelor of Laws/Bachelor of Criminology student and women’s team captain, Casidhe Green said she “can’t wait to see what’s in store for the Vultures this season.” 

VU has consistently been a top contender in the league, and our teams this year are looking stronger than ever. It’s been an incredible journey so far, and we’re proud to be part of a competition that brings out the best in student-athletes both on and off the court.” 

12-week fixture – more than 130 basketball games 

This year’s competition will see 130 games played by student-athlete teams, at university campuses across Australia. Every game is livestreamed free and on-demand, making it easier than ever for fans to follow their teams and catch every dunk, drive, and dramatic finish. 

The season will include nine rounds of home and away matches, followed by three weeks of finals, with the grand finals set for 28 May 2026.
