VU returns for season three of the 2023 University Basketball League Australia
In its third season, the University Basketball League Australia (UBL) will return in 2023 bigger and better due to the addition of two more universities. The student-only competition has established itself as being incredibly popular across the nation, building on many long-standing university rivalries.
Victoria University has never been in better shape after a great 2022 season that saw both men and women qualify for finals, as well as recent success at Unisport Nationals Div 1 - Perth WA, where VU women became National Champions and men claimed Bronze.
“It's undoubtedly not by chance that Victoria University's basketball program has emerged as one of the best in the country”, says VU Sports Officer, Wade Spencer. “This group, led by outstanding individuals, worked incredibly hard to accomplish what they have, and we look forward to raising the bar in 2023.”
The Australian Catholic University and University of Tasmania will join the league in 2023, bringing total participation to 13 universities.
In 2022 Curtin University, Federation University Australia, RMIT University and The University of Adelaide joined the seven founding universities: La Trobe University, The University of Melbourne, University of the Sunshine Coast, The University of Sydney, University of Technology Sydney, The University of Western Australia, and Victoria University.
The 2023 UBL will tip off on 14 March 2023, with nine weeks of home and away games and three weeks of finals, concluding with grand finals on 30 and 31 May 2023.
The full schedule for 2023 UBL will be released soon.
