Victoria University (VU) and Athletics Australia have entered a sponsorship in an agreement which will benefit students seeking placements, research outreach and VU’s Elite Athlete program.

Athletics Australia is the national governing body for the sport of athletics in Australia and is the only organisation recognised as such by World Athletics, the Australian Olympic Committee, Paralympics Australia, Commonwealth Games Australia and the Australian Sports Commission.

VU is a world-class university, ranked in the top 2% of universities in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, top 6% for global impact based on the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals and ranked 7th in the world for sport in the Academic Ranking of World Universities.

“In an Olympic and Paralympic year, Victoria University is delighted to be recognised as the official university partner of Athletics Australia. This new collaboration will provide opportunities for VU athletes, sports science students and world-leading researchers,” Victoria University Vice-Chancellor Professor Adam Shoemaker said.

Our partnership with Athletics Australia will further strengthen Victoria University's position among the top 10 sports science universities in the world.

Announced ahead of premier international athletics event, the Maurie Plant Meet being held in Melbourne on 15 February, the sponsorship will see VU branding across Lakeside Stadium in Melbourne, student placement opportunities in the lead-up to and at the meet in areas such as event management and marketing and content creation.

Athletics Australia will also distribute relevant research projects to their database and will discuss joint research project opportunities.

“It is with great excitement that we announce our partnership with VU. This collaboration represents a significant stride forward in advancing both athletic excellence and educational enrichment for athletes across the state of Victoria,” Athletics Australia CEO Peter Bromley said.

“This partnership embodies our shared commitment to fostering talent and supporting the holistic development of athletics, and with its esteemed national and international reputation, VU is the perfect partner as Australian athletics continues to gain recognition globally.”
