Victoria University launches 8-week Applied AI for Business program
The Applied AI for Business Program, led by Victoria University Associate Professor Scott Bingley and Dr Ruwangi Fernando, will support businesses across Melbourne’s north-west to move beyond AI awareness and develop the skills to identify, implement and deliver practical AI solutions within their own workplaces.
It will be delivered in partnership with the Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, NorthLINK, SAP Australia User Group, CSIRO Technology, and Australian Computer Society (ACS). Each partner organisation brings valuable industry expertise to the project, from local workforce understanding, industry connections, to technical and technology capability.
The program is supported by the Victorian Government’s Skills Solutions Partnerships (SSP) program, administered by the Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions (DJSIR), bringing industry and training providers together to develop training that responds directly to workforce needs and skills shortages.
Generating business impact through applied AI
The eight-week Applied AI for Business Program will combine structured learning with practical implementation, enabling participants to work on an AI solution relevant to their own organisation.
Participants will complete core AI learning modules before selecting practical implementation tracks aligned to their business needs. They will also have access to an AI Training Agent, alongside human mentoring and validation throughout the program.
By the end of the program, participants will have developed a working AI solution, demonstrated business impact and built the capability to support further AI adoption within their organisation.
Associate Professor Bingley said the program was designed to address one of the biggest challenges facing businesses adopting AI.
“There is no shortage of information about AI. The challenge for many businesses is knowing where to start and how to turn AI tools into something that delivers genuine value,” he said.
This program is deliberately practical. Participants will work on a real problem within their own organisation and leave with something they can actually use.
Dr Ruwangi Fernando said the program has been designed to recognise that every business has different priorities and different opportunities for AI adoption.
“AI adoption is not one-size-fits-all. Participants will be able to choose from nine different practical implementation tracks based on the needs of their organisation, allowing them to focus on where AI can create the most meaningful value in their workplace.”
“What also makes this program different is how people will learn. The program will be delivered through LearningWay.AI, an AI-native learning platform. Rather than AI simply being a topic participants learn about, AI will be embedded into the learning experience itself, providing personalised, proactive support as participants move from learning about AI to implementing a real solution in their workplace.”
