Setting Sun Short Film Festival – last call for submissions

This is your last chance to enter a film into the Setting Sun Short Film Festival, with entries closing 31 January 2018.

Do you have a short film that you made between 1 December 2015 and 31 January 2018?

Is it no more than 15 minutes long?

Make VU proud and enter your mini-masterpiece into the Setting Sun Short Film Festival.

As part of VU’s sponsorship, our students can have their entry fee waived.

The festival will be held 26-30 April at the Sun Theatre Yarraville.

Competition prizes

Over $10,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded in a range of categories.

Take away a prize by coming out top in the following assessments:

  • story – well told, fluent, good theme or subject, good structure, good dialogue
  • engaging and entertaining for audience
  • production values – camera technique, special effects, lighting and sound
  • creativity and originality.

Competition categories

Apart from the female-only and secondary-school program, categories are open to everyone.

  • Best Short Film
  • Best Film Feature Length (narrative or documentary)
  • Best Short Film West (filmed in the West or made by a Westie)
  • Best Short Film Cultural Diversity
  • People’s Choice
  • The Rouge Program (female only)
  • Best Short Feature

  • Best Animation
  • Best Director
  • Best Screenplay
  • Best Acting Performance Overall
  • Best Short Film Secondary
  • Best Short Film Tertiary Student

To get your entry fee waived, simply follow these steps:

  • Go to the online entry site
  • Click on 'Adult entrant'
