VU congratulates its partners the AFLW Western Bulldogs as they enter the Grand Final round this Saturday.
The Dogs beat the Melbourne Demons in a nail-biting two point victory at VU Whitten Oval last Saturday, with best on ground Emma Kearney collecting 22 possessions and kicking a crucial goal in the second quarter. But it was Brooke Lochland’s final goal that closed the deal for the Bulldogs in the final 90 seconds.
The team will face the Brisbane Lions this Saturday in the Grand Final at IKON Park, in what we hope will be the sequel to the triumph of the 2016 men’s season.
VU alumnus and star inside midfielder Kirsty Lamb spoke of the euphoria at the final siren.
"I was on the bench yelling and screaming, trying to get my rotation happening. I got myself on just after Brooke kicked the last goal. I had the ball in my hand when the siren went. It was an unreal feeling."
As a leading sports university, VU is actively committed to the growth of women’s sport in Australia, from grassroots to elite levels.
