AFLW Bulldogs claim 2018 Grand Final flag
VU congratulates its partners the AFLW Western Bulldogs on their six-point Grand Final victory against the Brisbane Lions.
As a proud Bulldogs partner and champion of women's sport in the west, Victoria University joins the community in celebrating this momentous occasion.
With Monique Conti named player of the match, the team’s fairy tale year became complete as they also took out the 2018 minor premiership (top of the ladder) – all this just one year on from a lacklustre 2017 season.
The Bulldogs prevailed without their skipper Katie Brennan, on suspension for rough conduct in the preliminary final, despite the repeated pleas of the club.
Dominant in Saturday’s muddy match was legendary midfielder and VU alum Kirsty Lamb, who – in spite of her elation – remains humble in her role as a pioneer of the game.
“I just want to play footy and play lots of it. I don’t really look at myself as a role model, but I guess we are!”
VU’s 30-year partnership with the Bulldogs has helped cement its reputation as leaders in sport. We’ll be cheering on our partners – the Bulldogs’ AFL, and VFL men’s and women’s teams – in what we hope to be another history-making year of the Dogs.
