The Institue for Health and Sport presents a guest lecture from Naoki Chiba, who will discuss the effects of foreign athletic labour in Japan

Naoki Chiba is a Professor in the Sociology of Sport at Chukyo University in Japan. Professor Chiba is a research leader in the area of elite athlete migration and transnationalism.

In this presentation he will interrogate the flows of athletic labour to Japan and consider the effects on these athletes in relation to resettlement and identity.

Further he examines the ways that foreign athletic labour changes the face of Japanese professional sports and subsequently challenge the concept of national identity.
