This unit (DHCCHI501) describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to obtain and evaluate information about client health and medical history for the purposes of understanding the impact of client health on personal health and wellbeing goals. It includes knowing when it is appropriate to refer clients for medical or specialist care.
It requires the ability to communicate effectively with clients to obtain and record comprehensive health and medical information and to identify and access credible sources to evaluate the impact of disclosed conditions on client health and wellbeing goals.
The unit applies to individuals working directly with clients in the capacity of a health coach to empower them to take control of their health and wellbeing. The skills in this unit must applied within the individual's own role responsibilities and limitations.
