CHCFAM003 - Support people to improve relationships

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to engage with diverse people to determine relationship issues and support relationship building using a strengths-based approach.This unit applies to individuals working with individuals and families in community services work. It does not include formal relationship counselling. When combined with other units it may apply to group work.


For Melbourne campuses

Assessment tasks will be designed to reinforce & extend knowledge & skill competence within set & controlled parameters in accordance with each unit’s learning outcomes & performance criteria requirements, including the setting of work based practical application tasks designed to provide evidence of competence outcomes, within periodic & scheduled timelines.
Students will be expected to demonstrate the following required skills:
*manage tasks & manage contingencies in the context of the job role.
There must be evidence that the candidate has:
*engaged with, & supported at least 5 different individuals or family groups to improve their interpersonal relationships using strengths-based approaches, incl:

  • couples, families with children
    *people from different cultures, socio-economic backgrounds, educational levels
    *addressed all of the following issues:
  • individual/personal issues, health & lifestyle challenges
  • couple issues, family relationship issues

Required reading

The qualified trainer and assessor will provide teaching and learning materials as required in the form of workbooks produced by the Polytechnic and/or via the Polytechnic e-learning system.
