Assessment
Assessment tasks will be designed to reinforce and extend knowledge and skill competence within set and controlled parameters in accordance with each unit's learning outcomes and performance criteria requirements, including the setting of work based practical application tasks designed to provide evidence of competence outcomes, within periodic and scheduled timelines.
Students will be expected to demonstrate the following required skills:
- consulting and communicating with other project personnel;
- identifying and following relevant OHS/WHS procedures;
- using steel section tables;
- applying relevant data from AS 4100;
- performing calculations to determine span, beam sizes, spacing, footing plates etc.;
- extracting relevant information and data from the AISC Handbook, and;
- producing structural steel drawing.Students will also be expected to demonstrate the following knowledge:
- section tables;
- data from AS 4100 and design capacity tables for structural steel in the selection and specification of bolts and welds;
- structural steel members using plans, sections, elevations and details;
- design data;
- drawing standards;
- detailing;
- dimensioning;
- weld types;
- protective coatings, and;
- construction requirements.
