This unit describes the skills and knowledge to explore and analyse the significance of stories or narratives told within and across cultures and their impact on cultural and cross cultural identities.

Assessment tasks will be designed to reinforce and extend knowledge and skill competence within set and controlled parameters in accordance with each unit's learning outcomes and performance criteria requirements, including the setting of work based practical application tasks designed to provide evidence of competence outcomes, within periodic and scheduled timelines. Students will be expected to demonstrate the following required skills: - read and interpret textual information; - synthesise and summarise information; - analyse relationships between stories and their cultural context, and; - analyse different versions of a story.Students will also be expected to demonstrate the following knowledge: - theories related to narrative and narrative structure; - the nature of culture and acculturation, and; - primary stories told in major cultures.
