This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to design grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) power supply systems. It includes preparing to design, and developing and obtaining approval for grid connected power supply systems. It also includes designing grid-connected PV power supply system installation, following design briefs, incorporating schemes for protection of persons and property from dangers of system malfunctions, ensuring safety and performance standards and functional requirements are meet, and documenting design calculations and criteria.
Assessment tasks will be designed to reinforce & extend knowledge and skill competence within set & controlled parameters in accordance with each unit’s learning outcomes & performance criteria requirements, incl the setting of work based practical application tasks designed to provide evidence of competence outcomes, within periodic and scheduled timelines.
Students will be expected to demonstrate the following required skills:
*developing outlines of alternative designs, design within safety and functional requirements and budget limitations
*documenting and presenting design
*negotiating design alteration requests
*obtaining approval for final design
*dealing with unplanned events
*applying relevant WHS & OHS requirements
*designing grid-connected photovoltaic power supply system
*identifying and applying industry regulations
*meeting scheduled timelines
*working with relevant person/s.
The qualified trainer and assessor will provide teaching and learning materials as required in the form of workbooks produced by the Polytechnic and/or via the Polytechnic e-learning system.
This unit is not compulsory for any specific course. Depending on the course you study, this unit may be taken as an elective.
