This unit covers locating and rectifying fault(s) in appliances intended to operate to a connected supply up to 1,000 volts a.c. or 1,500 volts d.c. This may be incidental to or a primary and regular function in the workplace. It encompasses following prescribed procedures, working safely, reading circuit diagrams, isolation procedures, identifying faults according to procedures, identifying like for like replacement/repair components according to procedures, selecting and using testing and measuring devices, terminating and connecting cables and conductors, safety testing and reporting.

Assessment

Assessment tasks will be designed to reinforce and extend knowledge and skill competence within set and controlled parameters in accordance with each unit's learning outcomes and performance criteria requirements, including the setting of work based practical application tasks designed to provide evidence of competence outcomes, within periodic and scheduled timelines. Students will be expected to demonstrate the following required skills and knowledge: - safe fault finding; - single phase appliances; - produce documentation and reports, and; - enterprise reporting and recording systems.
