Assessment

Assessment tasks will be designed to reinforce and extend knowledge and skill competence within set and controlled parameters in accordance with each unit's learning outcomes and performance criteria requirements, including the setting of work based practical application tasks designed to provide evidence of competence outcomes, within periodic and scheduled timelines. Students will be expected to demonstrate the following required skills and knowledge: - basic technical drawing conventions and symbols; - freehand technical sketching techniques; - hand tools for cutting, shaping, drilling, threading, tapping, and finishing metallic and non-metallic components; - tools for measuring and marking out; - tools for dismantling and assembling electrical and electronic components; - fixed power tools for cutting, shaping, drilling, and finishing metallic and non- metallic components; - portable power tools for cutting, shaping, drilling, and structural components; - purpose of sequencing dismantling and assembling; - importance of marking/labelling and storing parts; - techniques for dismantling and assembling close fitting parts; - use of gasket and seals; - hazards associated with welding activities and equipment; - welding processes and industry applications; - thermal cutting techniques, and; - manual metal arc welding processes.
