Overview

Sport - it’s all about the rules! Behind the rules lies the legal framework. This unit identifies the legal frameworks of sport: the constitutions and rules of sporting organisations, their rule-making processes, contracts, risk management, duties of care in relation to facilities, equipment and participation, selection processes and the possible legal challenges to them, conduct rules, integrity, discipline both on and off the field and more.



The unit will be delivered with the assistance of major sporting organisations.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Analyse and present knowledge of key legal areas and their application to sport;
  2. Critically review a range of legal issues in sport;
  3. Investigate relevant legal principles, legislation and rules to issues arising in sport contexts;
  4. Critique the application of law in the policies, practices and culture of a sporting organisation or club; and
  5. Contextualise and solve problems in a range of applied practical cases in elite and/or community-based sport organisations.
