This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to work effectively in a sport, recreation or fitness environment. The unit requires the ability to use industry knowledge to support the completion of day-to-day work activities. This unit applies to key personnel working in customer service roles in gyms, aquatic centres, community centres or indoor activity centres. It also applies to individuals working as instructors, trainers or guides and volunteers in indoor and outdoor settings with a range of client groups. These individuals work under supervision and according to relevant legislation and organisational policies and procedures.
Assessment tasks will be designed to reinforce and extend knowledge and skill competence within set and controlled parameters in accordance with each unit’s learning outcomes and performance criteria requirements, including the setting of work based practical application tasks designed to provide evidence of competence outcomes, within periodic and scheduled timelines.

The qualified trainer and assessor will provide teaching and learning materials as required in the form of workbooks produced by the Polytechnic and/or via the Polytechnic e-learning system.
This unit is not a compulsorily taken as part of any specific course. Depending on the course you study, this unit may be taken as an elective.
