Assessment tasks will be designed to reinforce and extend knowledge and skill competence within set and controlled parameters in accordance with each competency unit's learning outcomes and performance criteria requirements, including the setting of project and work based practical application tasks designed to provide evidence of competence outcomes, within periodic and scheduled timelines.
Students will be expected to demonstrate the following required skills:
- apply legislative, organisation and site requirements and procedures for installing trench shoring;
- organise work activities;
- select and use relevant tools and equipment safely;
- identify and report on hazards related to the worksite and work activity, and;
- communicate effectively to receive and clarify work instructions.Students will also be expected to demonstrate the following knowledge:
- site and equipment safety requirements;
- excavation techniques;
- shoring methods and systems;
- working in confined spaces;
- construction techniques;
- equipment types, characteristics, technical capabilities and limitations;
- operational, maintenance and basic diagnostic procedures;
- site isolation and traffic control responsibilities and authorities;
- materials safety data sheets and materials handling methods;
- project quality requirements;
- civil construction terminology, and;
- JSAs/safe work method statement.
