Overview

This unit covers the installation of trench support in the civil construction industry. It includes planning and preparing, installing
trench shoring, removing trench shoring, and cleaning up.

Assessment

For Melbourne campuses

Assessment tasks will be designed to reinforce and extend knowledge and skill competence within set and controlled parameters in accordance with each competency unit’s learning outcomes and performance criteria requirements, including the setting of project and work based practical application tasks designed to provide evidence of competence outcomes, within periodic and scheduled timelines.

Students will be expected to demonstrate the following required skills:

  • apply legislative, organisation and site requirements and procedures for installing trench shoring;
  • organise work activities;
  • select and use relevant tools and equipment safely;
  • identify and report on hazards related to the worksite and work activity, and;
  • communicate effectively to receive and clarify work instructions.

Required reading

Lecturer will provide teaching and learning materials as required in the form of Victoria Polytechnic produced workbooks.

As part of a course
