This unit covers the competency required to recognise emergencies in the workplace, to report emergencies and to take appropriate action. For this unit, workplace is defined as the area encompassed by an individual's responsibilities.
This unit:
applies to all personnel within an organisation;
has been developed to cover the broad range of emergencies and workplaces as considered in Australian Standard 37452002;
is part of a suite of eleven workplace emergency response units of competency that has three streams, and;
is part of the workplace evacuation stream.
Assessment tasks will be designed to reinforce and extend knowledge and skill competence within set and controlled parameters in accordance with each unit’s learning outcomes and performance criteria requirements, including the setting of work based practical application tasks designed to provide evidence of competence outcomes, within periodic and scheduled timelines.

The qualified trainer and assessor will provide teaching and learning materials as required in the form of workbooks produced by the Polytechnic and/or via the Polytechnic e-learning system.
This unit is not compulsory for any specific course. Depending on the course you study, this unit may be taken as an elective.
