Overview

The purpose of this unit is to focus on the development of organisation and planning skills, knowledge, practical skills, problem solving and interpersonal skills through participation in experiences of a practical nature. The focus of the learning program for Foundation Unit 1 includes:

  • subject specific knowledge applicable to a relevant personal, social, educational and/or community goal
  • skills applicable to a relevant personal, social, educational and/or community goal
  • development of an understanding of social issues and civic responsibility
  • introduction to problem-solving skills
  • introduction to skills for planning, organising and working in teams.

Assessment

For Melbourne campuses

Evidence of successful performance of the learning outcomes may include, but is not restricted to:
• a portfolio of accumulated evidence, for example photos, timelines, logbooks, peer evaluations
• teacher observation and/or checklists
• evidence accumulated through project or program participation
• awards from recognised programs
• self-assessment inventories
• oral or written reports
• application of information and communications technology, including Internet usage.

Required reading

The qualified trainer and assessor will provide teaching and learning materials as required in the form of workbooks produced by Victoria University and/or via the Victoria University e-learning system.

As part of a course

This unit is not compulsory for any specific course. Depending on the course you study, this unit may be taken as an elective.
