Overview

This unit covers identifying improvements and/or solving problems, implementing/monitoring the implementation of an improvement strategy, and evaluating the improvement.

Assessment

For Melbourne campuses

Assessment tasks will be designed to reinforce and extend knowledge and skill competence within set and controlled parameters in accordance with each unit’s learning outcomes and performance criteria requirements, including the setting of work based practical application tasks designed to provide evidence of competence outcomes, within periodic and scheduled timelines.

Students will be expected to demonstrate the following required skills:

participating and communicating in a team setting;
identifying improvements and/or solving problems in a team setting;
implementing improvement strategies in a team setting;
recommending further action in accordance with standard operating procedures;
collecting and collating feedback data;
evaluating the improvement strategy implemented;
reading, interpreting information on written job instructions, specifications, charts, lists, drawings and other applicable reference documents;
planning and sequencing tasks;
checking and clarifying information;
entering information onto workplace documents;
following verbal instructions, and;
orally reporting routine information.

Students will also be expected to demonstrate the following knowledge:

roles and functions of self and team members;
team discussion and problem solving processes;
improvement tools and methods and their application;
procedures for using process improvement tools in the team environment;
improvement strategies;
procedures for implementing the improvement strategies;
the individual's role in implementing improvement strategies;
procedures for initiating further action;
the procedures for collecting and collating improvement feedback data;
the analytical tools and processes to evaluate the improvement strategy, and;
safe workplace practices.

Required reading

The qualified trainer and assessor will provide teaching and learning materials as required in the form of workbooks produced by the Polytechnic and/or via the Polytechnic e-learning system.
