Overview

Mathematical Methods (CAS) Units 1 and 2 are designed as preparation for Mathematical Methods (CAS) Units 3 and 4. The areas of study for Unit 1 are ‘Functions and graphs’, ‘Algebra’, ‘Rates of change and calculus’ and ‘Probability’. Familiarity with determining the equation of a straight line from combinations of sufficient information about points on the line or the gradient of the line and familiarity with pythagoras theorem and its application to finding the distance between two points is assumed. Students should also be familiar with quadratic and exponential functions, algebra and graphs, and basic concepts of probability.  This unit is studied in Year 11.

Assessment

For Melbourne campuses

Demonstration of 'Satisfactory completion' by a selection of Assessment tasks and Level of Performance by SAC (Tests) and Exams.

Required reading

Lecturer will provide teaching and learning materials as required in the form of VU produced workbooks.
