Overview

The purpose of this unit is to enable students to develop their knowledge and skills to read, write, respond, and engage with simple texts including webpages for vocational and workplace settings, podcasts and social media. Through discussions and class activities students will develop their understanding of the structures and features of these text types, and examine how these are influenced by purpose, context, types and purposes of different texts and the assigned audience.

Assessment

For Melbourne campuses

Assessment tasks will be designed to reinforce and extend knowledge and skill competence within set and controlled parameters in accordance with each units learning outcomes and performance criteria requirements, including the setting of work based practical application tasks designed to provide evidence of competence outcomes, within periodic and scheduled timelines.

Required reading

The qualified trainer and assessor will provide teaching and learning materials as required in the form of workbooks produced by the VU Polytechnic and/or via the VU Polytechnic e-learning system.
