Overview

The unit investigates pulmonary rehabilitation, different methods to assess exercise capacity and prescribe training for pulmonary conditions (including in diverse settings, via Telehealth, and educational programs) and considerations associated with clients using supplemental oxygen, and exercise.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Appraise exercise assessment and prescription in diverse pulmonary rehabilitation settings in order to deliver care to pulmonary/respiratory clientele in a multidisciplinary care environment;
  2. Determine various methods to assess exercise capacity and prescribe appropriate training for pulmonary conditions, with consideration for the monitoring and special care needs of clients using oxygen supplementation; and,
  3. Integrate theoretical knowledge into their practical skills for the purpose of prescribing theoretically and practically sound exercise programs for people with pulmonary conditions and their complex care needs.
