Overview

This unit enables students to explore the speciality of paediatric nursing at an advanced undergraduate level. The content within the unit will expose students to advanced practice principles of paediatric nursing critically exploring the skills and knowledge required to provide care for paediatric patients across a range of conditions. Students will consolidate and build upon previous paediatric nursing knowledge provided in years one and two of the degree. The unit will include use of evidence based practice, ethics, critical thinking and analysis.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Consolidate knowledge of paediatric patients and evidence based care provided;
  2. Demonstrate understanding of common interventions in the diagnosis of paediatric conditions;
  3. Demonstrate understanding of paediatric interventions with rationales;
  4. Consolidate medication knowledge of paediatric management and care;
  5. Explain a range of common paediatric conditions across the paediatric life span;
  6. Provide evidence of reflective practice in group discussions;
  7. Demonstrate knowledge and skills in information literacy and academic writing.
