This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to write complex workplace texts which may be in printed or digital format, such as reports, technical or design briefs, induction manuals, standard operating procedures and instruction manuals.  The unit applies to individuals who need writing skills at Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) level 4 to undertake a vocational training pathway or workplace tasks.  This unit is designed for integration and contextualisation with vocational units to support achievement of vocational competency.

Assessment tasks will be designed to reinforce and extend knowledge and skill competence within set and controlled parameters in accordance with each competency unit's learning outcomes and performance criteria requirements, including the setting of project and work based practical application tasks designed to provide evidence of competence outcomes, within periodic and scheduled timelines. Students will be expected to demonstrate the following required skills: - write complex workplace texts appropriate to audience and purpose, and; - critically review drafts to finalise workplace texts.Students will also be expected to demonstrate the following knowledge: - features of complex workplace texts; - writing strategies - planning, drafting, proofing, reviewing - to produce complex workplace texts; - grammar and vocabulary for complex workplace texts, and; - writing conventions for complex workplace texts.
