This unit describes the skills and knowledge to use introductory concepts of calculus.  This unit applies to individuals who need numeracy skills at Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) level 5 to undertake a vocational training pathway or workplace tasks.  This unit is designed for integration and contextualisation with vocational units to support achievement of vocational competency.

Assessment

Assessment tasks will be designed to reinforce and extend knowledge and skill competence within set and controlled parameters in accordance with each competency unit's learning outcomes and performance criteria requirements, including the setting of project and work based practical application tasks designed to provide evidence of competence outcomes, within periodic and scheduled timelines. Students will be expected to demonstrate the following required skills: - solve equations; - calculate limits; - use first principles to differentiate simple functions, and; - differentiate simple polynomial functions.Students will also be expected to demonstrate the following knowledge: - functions and relations, and; - domain and range.
