This unit describes the skills and knowledge to apply and use trigonometric ratios (sine, cosine and tangent), the Sine Rule and Cosine Rule and the area of triangle formula for practical workplace tasks.  This unit applies to individuals who need numeracy skills at Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) level 5 to undertake a vocational training pathway or workplace tasks.  This unit is designed for integration and contextualisation with vocational units to support achievement of vocational competency.

Assessment

Assessment tasks will be designed to reinforce and extend knowledge and skill competence within set and controlled parameters in accordance with each unit's learning outcomes and performance criteria requirements, including the setting of work based practical application tasks designed to provide evidence of competence outcomes, within periodic and scheduled timelines. Students will be expected to demonstrate the following required skills: - undertake work related tasks involving; - calculating side lengths and angle sizes in right-angled triangles; - use of the Sine Rule and Cosine Rule, and; - use of the formula for area of a triangle.Students will also be expected to demonstrate the following knowledge: - names and properties of triangles, and; - trigonometric ratios of sine, cosine and tangent.
