This unit describes the skills and knowledge to use a range of algebraic and graphical techniques to analyse and solve mathematical problems.  This unit applies to individuals who need numeracy skills at Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) level 5 to undertake a vocational training pathway or workplace tasks.  This unit is designed for integration and contextualisation with vocational units to support achievement of vocational competency.

Assessment

Assessment tasks will be designed to reinforce and extend knowledge and skill competence within set and controlled parameters in accordance with each unit's learning outcomes and performance criteria requirements, including the setting of work based practical application tasks designed to provide evidence of competence outcomes, within periodic and scheduled timelines. Students will be expected to demonstrate the following required skills: - manipulate and factorise algebraic expressions; - draw graphs of relevant linear and non-linear equations; - solve linear and quadratic equations, and; - solve simultaneous equations.Students will also be expected to demonstrate the following knowledge: - a range of methods of factorisation.
