This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to read, interpret and use detailed plans, drawings and diagrams.  This unit applies to individuals who need numeracy skills at Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) level 4 to undertake a vocational training pathway or workplace tasks.  This unit is designed for integration and contextualisation with vocational units to support achievement of vocational competency.

Assessment

Assessment tasks will be designed to reinforce and extend knowledge and skill competence within set and controlled parameters in accordance with each unit's learning outcomes and performance criteria requirements, including the setting of work based practical application tasks designed to provide evidence of competence outcomes, within periodic and scheduled timelines. Students will be expected to demonstrate the following required skills: - interpret all relevant information on plans, drawings and diagrams to complete a work plan or method statement or to complete a project, and; - calculate dimensions and measure accurately.Students will also be expected to demonstrate the following knowledge: - features of plans, drawings and diagrams; - symbols and abbreviations used on plans, drawings and diagrams, and; - scale on plans, drawings and diagrams.
