This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to locate items or places using highly familiar maps and diagrams. Also, to give and follow simple oral directions to locate items or familiar places.  This unit applies to individuals who need numeracy skills at Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) level 1 to undertake a vocational training pathway or workplace tasks.  This unit is designed for integration and contextualisation with vocational units to support achievement of vocational competency.

Assessment

Assessment tasks will be designed to reinforce and extend knowledge and skill competence within set and controlled parameters in accordance with each unit's learning outcomes and performance criteria requirements, including the setting of work based practical application tasks designed to provide evidence of competence outcomes, within periodic and scheduled timelines. Students will be expected to demonstrate the following required skills: - locate familiar objects on a map and in real life, and; - give and follow directions to locate a familiar object.Students will also be expected to demonstrate the following knowledge: - recognition of commonly used simple symbols on maps and diagrams.
