In this unit pre-service teachers investigate the key pedagogical themes and practices that constitute effective teacher education. Major themes that will be covered in this unit are praxis learning, professional practice in partnership and assessment in primary and secondary teaching contexts. Students will develop in-depth knowledge of schooling and teaching within the context of professional guidelines. Emphasis is placed on the development of supportive learning environments through collaborative learning circles whereby generative themes are realised through portfolio dialogue and rich task practice. The unit centres on major debates in education. Pre-service teachers explore the philosophy and possibilities of education including student learning, classroom arrangements, classroom unit and lesson planning and implementation.
