Assessment

Assessment tasks will be designed to reinforce and extend knowledge and skill competence within set and controlled parameters in accordance with each unit's learning outcomes and performance criteria requirements, including the setting of work based practical application tasks designed to provide evidence of competence outcomes, within periodic and scheduled timelines. Students will be expected to demonstrate the following required skills: - identify and use a range of methods to practise and develop improvisation techniques; - perform simple solo improvisation in chosen area with members of an ensemble, and; - use feedback from others to improve own techniques.Students will also be expected to demonstrate the following knowledge: - explain features of chosen pieces and their musical forms and conventions for improvisation; - outline issues and challenges that typically arise in the context of developing improvisation performances and possible strategies to overcome them, and; - outline work health and safety (WHS) principles as they apply to using musical instruments and performing in a range of environments.
