Overview

This unit of competency specifies the skills and knowledge required to carry out machining and manufacturing and assembling joinery components, meeting all relevant requirements of Australian Standards, work health and safety (WHS), and Commonwealth and state or territory legislation.Completion of the general construction induction training program specified by the model Code of Practice for Construction Work is required for any person who is to carry out construction work. Achievement of CPCCWHS1001Prepare to work safely in the construction industry meets this requirement.

Assessment

For Melbourne campuses

Assessment tasks will be designed to reinforce and extend knowledge and skill competence within set and controlled parameters in accordance with each unit’s learning outcomes and performance criteria requirements, including the setting of work based practical application tasks designed to provide evidence of competence outcomes, within periodic and scheduled timelines.

Students will be expected to demonstrate the following required skills:
*a candidate must meet the performance criteria of this unit by manufacturing and assembling joinery components for two of the following:

  • an opening sash and window frame
  • a multi panelled door and frame
  • a carcass unit or similar including door/s and drawer/s.

Required reading

The qualified trainer and assessor will provide teaching and learning materials as required in the form of workbooks produced by the Polytechnic and/or via the Polytechnic e-learning system.

As part of a course

This unit is not compulsory for any specific course. Depending on the course you study, this unit may be taken as an elective.
