Overview

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to apply principles and requirements relating to confidentiality, privacy and security to own work within the medical environment.

Assessment

For Melbourne campuses

Assessment tasks will be designed to reinforce and extend knowledge and skill competence within set and controlled parameters in accordance with each unit’s learning outcomes and performance criteria requirements, including the setting of work based practical application tasks designed to provide evidence of competence outcomes, within periodic and scheduled timelines.

Students will be expected to demonstrate the following required skills:

communication skills to clarify requirements and to resolve difficult issues with patients, their families and others, and;
planning and organising skills to access and secure records.

Students will also be expected to demonstrate the following knowledge:

occupational health and safety (OHS) for example: safe handling of specific dangerous goods (as relevant for enterprise); manual handling; relevant legislation from all levels of government that affects business operations;
codes of practice and national standards, such as: anti-discrimination legislation; ethical principles; privacy laws; Freedom of Information Act, and;
enterprise policies and procedures for confidentiality, privacy and security.

Required reading

The qualified trainer and assessor will provide teaching and learning materials as required in the form of workbooks produced by the Polytechnic and/or via the Polytechnic e-learning system.
